How the prices are collected
Nobody from us walks into these kitchens, and nobody is paid to appear. Each price is read from a source that is named on the row: the place’s own menu or site, a delivery listing, or a published guide. The source_url column is there so you can check any row without asking us.
Where a dish is sold as a range, we publish the lowest price in that range, never an average and never the top of it. One rule, applied to every figure we have ever published, so our numbers never flatter themselves. Dishes we have not confirmed a price for are still in the file, with price_gbp empty — we would rather hand you a gap than a guess.
What this is not
Being clear about the edges is part of making it usable. This is not a census of UK restaurants: it is one dish at each independent place we have listed, in four cities, chosen by us. It leans towards places that publish their prices. Prices are as last reported and change without telling anyone, so treat a figure as “what it was when we read it”, not as today’s till price. Chains are deliberately absent from the recommendations, for the reasons set out here.

If you are a journalist, researcher or student and need a cut we do not publish — a single city, a cuisine, a time series — write to [email protected] and we will put it together. There is no charge and no catch.
First published 1 November 2026. This file is rebuilt whenever the dishes change, and the date above moves with it. The method has not changed since we started publishing prices: lowest listed price, named source, no exceptions.
